Ta Prohm

Ancient Ruins of Ta Prohm Temple, Siem Reap, Cambodia

The temple at Angkor, Siem Reap, goes by the name Ta Prohm and stands out from the other temples in its unique state. Unlike its counterparts, this temple allows the living jungle to thrive within its walls. Consequently, it has become a beloved and highly photographed destination, especially since it appeared in the 2001 Angelina Jolie film Tomb Raider. Without a doubt, a visit to Ta Prohm should be included in your itinerary when exploring Angkor Wat in Cambodia.

My driver dropped me off at the west gate then I had to walk through the temple. It was a bright day, but soon I entered the site. The complex appeared dark, damped, and abundant, making a perfect scenario of its originality. The temple intentionally left more or less the way it was initially found, giving the visitors the feeling of discovering a temple lost in the jungle.

Most Photographed Temple

Ta Prohm is absolutely one of the most visited temples in the Angkor complex, so expect busloads of visitors during the peak hours. However, I recommend visiting this temple during off hours; otherwise, you got to fight the crowd to explore at your own pace and take pictures from a different perspective.

Inside The Temple

The magnificent Ta Prohm Temple is renowned for its two ancient Fig trees, which have grown for 900 years atop the structure and entwined it with their robust roots. Giant trees and lush vegetation have embraced some walls and doorways of this age-old monument. Throughout the temple, impressive trees provide refreshing shade, casting a serene green glow upon this otherworldly site. Amidst the sweltering heat and humidity, these leafy companions offer a welcome respite from the scorching sun. Although I visited the temple early in the morning, it was already bustling with a crowd of eager tourists. Photographers faced challenges capturing clear shots as hordes of visitors arrived, each seeking their own snapshot or selfie in front of every captivating attraction.

Compared to Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom, this is relatively small, but Ta Prohm temple is a beautiful sight, and it is worth a visit; it’s a little tricky to find on the map, but thanks to Vishal, who dropped me at the west gate and picked me up from the east gate.
